Ukrainian servicemen released from the captivity of the Russian occupiers confirmed the facts of the Russian Federation's violation of the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war, the Ukrainian parliamentary commissioner for human rights, Lyudmila Denisova, has said.
"The Russian Federation grossly violates the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war. These facts were confirmed during the last release of Ukrainian citizens from enemy captivity," the ombudsman wrote in her Telegram channel on Monday.
He stressed that Ukrainian servicemen told about inhumane treatment of them in captivity. "They were kept in a field, in a pit, in a garage. Periodically they were taken out one by one: they were beaten with examples, shot at the ear, intimidated. The guys from Snake Island, who were taken to Sevastopol in a tugboat, began to be used by local reporters for propaganda, telling about the humane Russian authorities who organized the delivery of prisoners home," said the ombudsman.
According to her, the prisoners of war were taken to an unknown destination and settled in a tent city in temperatures of minus 20 degrees, as a result of which many Ukrainian soldiers have frostbite on their limbs. "They were treated like prisoners, morally pressured, and during walks in the yard they let the dog down," Denisova added.
The ombudsman stressed that such actions on the part of Russia are a violation of Article 13 of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War, which emphasizes the humane treatment of prisoners of war.
