Forced to collect bodies. Occupiers violate rights of Ukrainian prisoners - Denisova

The Russian occupiers violate the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war, which are protected by the Geneva Convention. In particular, they force them to collect the bodies of their fellow servicemen on the battlefield.

This was reported on Telegram by ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova.

According to her, Ukrainian prisoners are sent to the occupied part of the Luhansk region for forced labor, forcing them to collect the bodies of their dead servicemen.

"The corresponding video was published by one of the propaganda Russian Telegram channels. In the video, the Ukrainian military occupiers are forced to answer that they allegedly work on a voluntary basis," Denisova noted.

The occupiers also said that the bodies of Ukrainian servicemen will be kept "until a dialogue is established" with Ukraine or until relatives themselves come to pick them up.

"Using the work of Ukrainian prisoners of war, the occupiers violate articles 49 and 52 of the Geneva Convention on the treatment of prisoners of war. In addition, by shooting propaganda videos, the invaders violate Article 13 of the Convention, which notes the humane treatment of prisoners of war, who should always be protected, in particular against acts of violence or intimidation, as well as offenses and public interest," added the ombudsman.

We recall that earlier it was reported that the Red Cross registered hundreds of Ukrainian POWs coming out of the Azovstal plant in Mariupol.
