Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, 21 children have died in the country, according to various sources, said Lyudmila Denisova, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.

"The situation in Ukraine remains tense. As of 1 p.m. on March 2, 2022, the Russian occupant continued to use heavy weapons and destroy civilians. Since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, according to the analysis of information from various sources. killed 21 children and injured 55 children," Denisova wrote on the social network Facebook.

As a result of the shelling by the invaders, the infrastructure of the cities of Kiev, Irpen, Kharkiv, Mariupol, Zhytomyr, Kherson and the village of Vasylivka in Zaporizhzhia region was destroyed.

In Zhytomyr, a maternity hospital was damaged as a result of the missile strike. In Vasilievka, shells landed in the yard of a local school.

Kharkiv and Kherson continue to remain under heavy shelling.

"Tonight, an air strike in Zhytomyr killed one child and injured 6 children. They were rescued from the basements of half-destroyed houses. By their actions, the armed forces of the Russian Federation continue to cynically violate the basic rights of children - the right to life and health care, guaranteed to every child in the world by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child," Denisova stressed.

She noted that some of these deaths could have been avoided if a no-fly zone had been established over Ukraine, and called on the international community and international human rights organizations to support the initiative to close Ukrainian skies to enemy fighters.

"Meanwhile, two triplets were born in a maternity hospital in Chernihiv under shelling. As long as such little angels are born in Ukraine - we are invincible!" she added.
