Verkhovna Rada rejects draft law on contributory pensions and pension reform

The Verkhovna Rada rejected the draft law on pension reform and contributory pensions. The draft was sent back to the authors for revision. This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on Telegram.

According to him, draft law No. 9212, submitted by the leader of the Servant of the People faction, David Arakhamia, Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, and others, was supported by only 214 MPs.

According to Zheleznyak, even if passed, the law had no chance of being implemented in the near future.

"The IMF has a specific provision that any changes to the pension system must be agreed with the World Bank. And while the situation with demographics is unclear (due to the war), it is very difficult to calculate the macro for such a change. It is impossible to be more precise," he added.

As a reminder, draft law No. 9212 was submitted to the Rada in April 2023. It provides for mandatory participation in the contributory pension system for all categories of employees until they reach the age of 55 and mandatory payment of pension contributions by employers for the benefit of employees.
