The EU has decided to launch a military operation against the Yemeni Houthis to ensure safe shipping in the Red Sea. This was reported by DPA with reference to sources.
The decision was approved by the EU foreign ministers.
It is reported that Germany has already sent the frigate Hessen to the coast of Yemen, with about 250 Bundeswehr soldiers on board.
As a reminder, after the start of Israel's military operation against Hamas, the Yemeni Houthis supported the latter. The Houthis began attacking merchant ships passing through the Red Sea. At the same time, the sea route through the Suez Canal and then through the Red Sea remains the shortest route for cargo ships between Asia and Europe.
It should be noted that Borrell announced the EU's decision to launch a military operation against the Houthis a month ago. But so far, only Britain and the United States have launched strikes against the Houthis. However, this has not helped to unblock the Red Sea.
