Negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU are delayed due to Hungary's veto

Permanent representatives of the European Union member states did not take a decision on the European Commission's recommendations to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU due to objections from Hungary. Discussions are scheduled to resume next week. This was reported by the Interfax-Ukraine news agency.

The report states that most countries support the Commission's opinion that Moldova and Ukraine have completed the necessary conditions for the start of negotiations on EU accession. However, Hungary has raised objections, claiming that there are still unfulfilled conditions, in particular, the protection of national minorities.

European diplomats noted that Hungary's position on this issue remains unchanged, which creates obstacles to the start of negotiations.
