Protests on the border of Poland and Ukraine: Situation at blocked border checkpoints

Polish protesters have been blocking the Medyka checkpoint on the border with Ukraine since yesterday. In total, about 2,000 trucks are queuing to leave for Ukraine. This was reported by Andriy Demchenko, spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, during a telethon.

"Yesterday after 9 a.m., the blocking at the Medyka checkpoint in Poland resumed. On the Ukrainian side, it is the Shehyni checkpoint. The blockers are located at a certain distance, about 500 meters from the border line, on the highway, blocking the movement of trucks," the spokesman said.

According to him, Polish protesters have also occupied three other areas on the border between Ukraine and Poland. About 1400 trucks are waiting to enter, and the Shehyni checkpoint has a queue of 600 trucks. Car traffic is not restricted for cars and buses.

"They (the protesters - ed.) said they would let three cars through per hour, both in the direction of Ukraine and those entering Poland. But over the previous day, we did not see a significant decrease in the number of vehicles," added Demchenko, commenting on the situation at Medyka checkpoint.
