In Zakarpattia region, a deputy explodes grenades during a village council meeting (UPDATED)

In Zakarpattia, a deputy exploded grenades in the building of the Keretsky village council of Mukachevo district, 26 people were injured. This was reported by the press service of the National Police.


The incident was reported at 11:37 am.


The explosion injured 26 people. 6 of the victims are in serious condition.


"Doctors are carrying out resuscitation measures for the man who detonated the grenades," the police added.


All specialized services, the police investigative team, explosives experts and forensic specialists are working at the scene. Priority investigative actions are underway.


A video of the explosion was posted online. It shows that three grenades were detonated in the building.

The explosion of grenades in a village council in Zakarpattia is being classified as illegal handling of weapons and a terrorist act, the National Police of Ukraine reported.


"Investigators classified the incident under Part 1 of Article 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In addition, the Security Service of Ukraine is registering information and investigating the incident under Part 1 of Article 258 (Terrorist Act) of the Criminal Code, which is under the jurisdiction of the SBU," the statement said.
