Finland closed the border with Russia and reinforced it with double barriers

Finland has closed its entire border with Russia and reinforced it with double barriers. At the moment, only freight trains run there. This was stated by the Deputy Commander of the Finnish Border Guard Jukka Lukkari in the Yle publication.

He explained that if migrants arrive at the border with Finland who do not want to return to Russia, they will be shown the way and directed in that direction.

"We hope that the Russian authorities will take care of these people and that they will be able to go to a place where they can get to Finland legally. If people are on the Russian side, they fall under Russian jurisdiction and control of the Russian authorities. However, if it turns out that someone is in a particularly vulnerable situation, we will fulfill our duty and take care of them," he said.

The deputy commander also noted that in the event of a violent attack on the border by migrants, border guards will be forced to use soft measures and try to bring the situation under control.

He emphasized that the work of the Border Guard Service provides for scenarios of encountering aggression while performing their duties.
