PACE will quickly prepare a resolution on the removal of athletes from Russia and Belarus from the Olympic Games

At the meeting, the PACE Bureau decided to prepare a Resolution on the removal of athletes and officials of the Russian Federation and Belarus from participation in the international Olympic movement under an accelerated procedure. This was reported by Yevgenia Kravchuk, deputy head of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on humanitarian and information policy, on Facebook.

According to her, the Bureau also instructed to organize relevant hearings in Strasbourg in April 2023 during the meeting of the PACE Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media, chaired by a Ukrainian deputy. Kravchuk emphasized that the Ukrainian side will make "maximum efforts so that the resolution is adopted as soon as possible."

In addition, she reminded that at least 228 professional athletes have died since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, so the issue of eliminating Russian and Belarusian athletes is "a matter of honor."

"Russia has repeatedly ignored the values and principles of Olympism at the Olympic Games of past years, conducting armed aggression against the sovereign flags of Georgia and Ukraine," Kravchuk said.

Ukraine introduced sanctions against the president of the Russian Olympic Committee and members of the International Olympic Committee.
