The Ukrainian national team defeated the Icelandic national team 2-1 and qualified for Euro 2024.
Albert Gudmundsson scored a goal for the Icelanders in the 30th minute.
Later goals were scored by Viktor Tsygankov and Mykhailo Mudryk in the 54th and 84th minutes, respectively. In the 39th minute, Roman Yaremchuk scored a goal against Iceland, but the referee canceled the goal due to offside.
At the Euros, Ukraine will play in Group E with Belgium, Romania, and Slovakia.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated the Ukrainian national football team.
"Thank you, guys! Thank you, national team! For the most important emotions for the whole country. For a crucial victory and reaching the Euros," Zelensky wrote.
He noted that with this victory, the Ukrainian national team "once again proved that when it is difficult for Ukrainians, but they don't give up and continue to fight, then Ukrainians definitely win."
"At a time when they want to destroy us every day, we prove every day: Ukrainians are and will be! Ukraine is and will be! Thank you for the victory!" the President summarized.
It is worth noting that the Georgian national team, having beaten the Greek team, also qualified for Euro 2024.
For the first time in history, the Georgian national team has qualified for the European Football Championship. At Euro 2024, the team will play in Group F with Turkey, Portugal and the Czech Republic.
