The representative of Greece Theodoros Rousopoulos has become the new president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). He is also a representative of the European People's Party. This was reported on Twitter by PACE.

Mr Rousopoulos is the 35th PACE President since 1949 and the first Greek national to hold the office.

"Congratulations to Theodoros Rousopoulos from Greece, who has just been elected President of the Assembly!" the statement reads.
As noted, Rousopoulos is the 35th President of the PACE since 1949 and the first Greek citizen to hold this position.
His term of office is one year and can be extended for another 365 days.
