The EU is considering the possibility of allocating €5 billion in military aid to Ukraine

The European Union may decide in the next few days to allocate an additional 5 billion euros from the European Peace Fund to Ukraine to meet the country's urgent needs for military supplies. EU High Representative Josep Borrell wrote about this in a blog dedicated to the results of the EU Foreign Affairs Council held last Monday. The full text of the document is published on the website of the European External Action Service.

"I will make a trip to Ukraine in February and we continue to work on the provision of estimated aid for the coming years. In the coming days, we should reach agreement on an additional €5 billion for the European Peace Facility (EPF) to create a 'Ukraine Assistance Fund' within the EPF based on new approaches to stimulate military aid to Ukraine from member states," Borrell wrote.

"We are also finalizing the work on the blocked Russian assets, and I am working hard to ensure that this decision is taken before the next EU Foreign Affairs Council," the EU High Representative added.

He noted that supporting Ukraine in its fight against the Russian invasion remains a top priority for the EU Council, as Russia's aggression poses a vital threat to European security.
