Police will not go around handing out summonses - Head of the National Police

The head of the National Police, Ivan Vyhovskyi, explains that issuing summonses to citizens is not part of the police's duties. Vyhovskyi said this in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.

"The week before last, one of the draft laws on mobilization was submitted to the parliament, but it received comments and was returned for revision. There are a lot of opinions, statements and comments about the issuance of summonses by the police, and some activists periodically voice even the idea that the police should be mobilized and obliged to issue summonses without the involvement of the TCC. The police provide maximum assistance to the TCC in establishing the location of evaders and, in accordance with the powers and with the necessary documents from the TCC, bring them to them. But serving summonses and joint patrols is an additional burden, and we do not have the resources to put a police officer next to every TCC employee. We stand at checkpoints and perform our duties on a daily basis, including functions that are not typical for the police. We are ready to help, but the police will not personally go around handing out summonses. At least until the law establishes such a rule and it is determined by our function," he said.
