The government has decided to lift the moratorium on disconnecting the population from housing and communal services due to the increase in non-payments. This was announced by Andriy Gerus, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy, Housing and Communal Services, during a telethon.
The MP noted that the most disciplined payers were subsidy recipients, who were afraid of "flying off the subsidy" due to debts, and pensioners who have a habit of paying on time. At the same time, some wealthy Ukrainians with salaries in the thousands of dollars "started abusing certain regulations and started accumulating debts for electricity."
"The problem was that those people who could pay and should pay, especially in such a difficult period of time, did not pay, realizing that they could not pay and there will be nothing for it," he said.
Gerus said that companies need the money to restore energy after the shelling.
"That's why the government made this decision," the MP said.
As a reminder, in late December, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine lifted the ban on the suspension of housing and communal services, the charging and collection of penalties (fines) and the collection of utility arrears for households in case of non-payment.
