Rada passed the law on the English language in the second reading: details

The Verkhovna Rada has adopted in the second reading the draft law No. 9432 on English as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine. This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak.

According to the adopted law, the state will promote language learning by Ukrainian citizens.


The law also stipulates that all civil servants of category A, groups of civil servants of categories B and C, heads of state administrations and their first deputies, military officers, senior police officers, prosecutors, tax officials and heads of state-owned business entities must speak English.


The law was also amended to provide budgetary support for cinemas for screening English-language films in the original language.


In addition, the draft law provides for mandatory study of English from kindergartens and at all levels of education.
