Latvia is ready to increase the number of trainings for the Ukrainian military by the end of 2023. This was discussed during a meeting in Kyiv between the delegations of the defense ministries of the two countries chaired by Ministers Rustem Umerov and Andris Spruds, the Ukrainian ministry reports.
After Latvia has already increased the amount of training by more than four times, Riga plans to train more than 1,500 more Ukrainian military personnel by the end of the year, noting that these trainings have already significantly improved the quality of personnel training.
Colonel Mykola Huben, Head of the Doctrine and Individual Training Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, emphasized that since July 2022, Latvia has successfully trained about 350 Ukrainian servicemen in various areas.
According to Huben, these exercises significantly improve the quality of training, and the Ukrainian side proposes to take this military experience into account in future exercises.
"It is proposed that in 2024, with the participation of Latvia, we will train approximately 96 unit commanders and 360 combat medics," Huben said.
It is noted that Latvia trains the Ukrainian military in such areas as basic general military training, officer-sergeant leadership training, sapper training, rifleman training, and others.
