Ukraine's energy system is facing a serious problem - a shortage of electricity due to a sharp increase in consumption.
According to the national electricity operator Ukrenergo, as a result of this situation, on August 17, between 19:00 and 22:00, the country had to seek emergency assistance from the power systems of Romania and Poland. The total capacity of the provided emergency support was 400 MW per hour.
According to Ukrenergo representatives, such emergency assistance is an extreme and expensive measure to overcome the electricity shortage. It is important to note that this approach avoids limiting consumers' energy consumption.
"Emergency assistance is the last and most expensive measure to overcome the shortage of electricity in the power system, which does not require limiting consumers," the agency said.
