Russian agent was detained in Odesa for spying on Ukrainian air defense - SBU

The Security Service of Ukraine detained an agent of the Russian Federal Security Service in Odesa who was conducting espionage activities regarding the positions of air defense missile systems and radar stations near the Black Sea. This was reported by the SBU.

According to the SBU, the agent collected information about naval facilities and defense positions in the southern region. The offender was acting under the guise of the head of a local company that employs sailors on fishing and merchant vessels.

SBU officers exposed the Russian agent and documented every step of his intelligence activity. The agent passed the information he received to the FSB in the form of text messages and marks on Google maps.

The investigation also showed that the offender planned to transmit the coordinates of the Ukrainian Armed Forces units that the Russians planned to launch missile and drone strikes on.

During the searches, the SBU found fake IDs of a representative of a “newspaper editorial office” and a local “water utility”. His actions are classified as high treason, for which he faces life imprisonment.
