The European Commission has allocated 500 million euros for the production of ammunition

The European Commission has allocated €500 million for the Ammunition Production Facility (ASAP). This will allow the European defense industry to increase its ammunition production capacity to 2 million shells per year by the end of 2025. This was reported by the press service of the European Commission.

With the support of the ASAP program, Europe is expected to achieve this ambitious goal by 2025. The European Commission has completed the evaluation of applications under the ASAP program in record time and selected 31 projects aimed at increasing the production and readiness of ammunition in the European industry.

The selected projects cover five main sectors, including explosives, powder, projectiles, missiles, and test and recovery certification. The total amount of funding for the projects is €513 million, which will be allocated from the EU and Norwegian budgets.

"This funding will allow attracting additional investment from industry through co-financing, bringing the total investment in the supply chain to about €1.4 billion," the statement said.

Grant agreements with selected applicants are expected to be signed in May 2024.
