NBU allows one-time exchange of Russian and Belarusian rubles in 2024

The National Bank of Ukraine, in compliance with the law (No. 3498-IX) that came into effect on December 24 last year, has made it possible to exchange Russian and Belarusian rubles held on the accounts of banks of non-sanctioned clients, the regulator's website said on Wednesday.

According to the NBU Resolution No. 17 of February 5, 2024, which amends the "military" Resolution No. 18 of February 24, 2022 and came into force on February 7 this year, such a one-time exchange is possible until the end of 2024.

In addition, the National Bank has clarified the grounds for the correct completion by banks of currency supervision over compliance by residents with the deadlines set by the NBU for settlements on imports of humanitarian aid imported into Ukraine, starting from December 1, 2023.

As reported earlier, the Verkhovna Rada, by a law on improving state regulation of financial services markets, allowed a one-time sale of Russian and Belarusian rubles in non-cash form from accounts in resident banks, which were frozen with the beginning of full-scale aggression, through non-Russian and non-sanctioned banks until the end of 2024.

The amendment was voted for by 242 people's deputies.
