Lithuania considers the possibility of installing fences on the wetlands of the border with Belarus

The Lithuanian State Border Guard Service is considering the possibility of installing physical barriers on the border with Belarus in wetlands. This was reported by the spokesperson for the Lithuanian Border Guard Service, Giedrius Mishutis, in the LRT publication.

Giedrius Mishutis announced the creation of a working group to study this possibility and calculate the costs.

Currently, fences and barbed wire are installed on about 550 km of Lithuania's border with Belarus, but there are no physical barriers in the wetlands.

Mishutis believes that additional physical barriers could be effective in stopping illegal migration across the border.
