Ukraine is counting on a positive interim assessment by the European Commission in June regarding its progress on the path of European integration.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyі stated this at a joint briefing with the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in Kyiv on May 9.

According to Zelenskyi, the time has long come to remove the artificial political uncertainty in relations between Ukraine and the European Union.

"The time has come for a positive decision to open negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the European Union," Zelenskyi said.

He added that "our values, security, well-being, peace on the continent - all this can be realized 100% for Europe only together with Ukraine."

"In this context, we expect that in June a positive interim assessment will be presented by the European Commission regarding the progress of Ukraine on the path of European integration. We are really counting on it," the president said.

The head of state noted that Ukraine has always been and always will be an integral part of the common European space.

As you know, in June, the European Commission will publish a preliminary assessment of Ukraine's progress in the reforms necessary for opening negotiations on EU membership.

It will be recalled that according to the results of the study conducted by a consortium of Ukrainian analytical centers, the final assessment of Ukraine's fulfillment of the "European integration" criteria was 6.8 points out of 10, i.e. it exceeded two-thirds.

Against this background, the start of negotiations on joining the EU in 2023 is a very real task.
