Russia will not be able to call up 400,000 "volunteers", will be forced to join the army - British intelligence

British intelligence believes that Russia will not be able to recruit another 400,000 people to the army voluntarily, as it has declared.

This is stated in the intelligence review of the British Ministry of Defense on Thursday.

The agency notes, with reference to the Russian mass media, that the Russian authorities are preparing the start of a large-scale conscription campaign with the aim of conscripting an additional 400,000 military personnel.

"Russia is presenting this campaign as a call for voluntary, professional personnel, not as a new mandatory mobilization. There is a real possibility that in practice this distinction will be blurred, and that regional authorities will try to fulfill their recruitment tasks by forcing men to join the army," says the analysis of British intelligence officers.

According to the review, the Russian authorities likely chose the so-called "volunteer model" to solve the problem of staff shortages in order to minimize internal dissent. It is incredible that the campaign will attract 400,000 real volunteers, they state in Britain.

At the same time, restoration of Russia's combat power in Ukraine will require not only personnel, the department noted. Russia needs more ammunition and military equipment than it currently has.

According to the Bloomberg agency, Russia plans to increase its army by 400,000 people this year, and in 2022, the occupiers probably succeeded in conscripting more than 500,000 people.
