 An assault weapon is a hand-held automatic small-arms weapon designed to destroy the enemy's manpower in close combat and capable of creating a high density of fire.

 "I am determined to ban assault weapons in this country. I have done it once and we will do it again," he said.

 Previously, Biden signed a law to strengthen control of the arms trade in the United States. Before that, he called for a challenge to the gun lobby after a shooting in Texas that killed 18 children and three adults.
