President of the European Commission to go to Baku to negotiate gas imports

The president of the European Commission is flying to Baku on Monday, July 18, during which he plans to talk in particular about large supplies of natural gas.

"In a situation where Russia continues to use its energy resources as a weapon, import diversification is a priority for the EU. President von der Leyen and European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson are in Azerbaijan tomorrow to further deepen cooperation," the European Commission said.

 

According to a draft document read by journalists of the agency on July 14, the European Commission proposes the Member States an agreement with Azerbaijan to increase imports of natural gas to at least 20 billion cubic meters annually.

 

On July 15 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev confirmed that Baku was preparing to sign a document with the EU on energy security in the coming days.
