The donor conference planned for today in Warsaw should be the start of a European "Marshall Plan" for Ukraine. The European Union plans to coordinate its aspirations for its reconstruction.

Charles Michel, president of the European Council, told Interfax-Ukraine.

"In my opinion, this conference should be, a starting point for some kind of European "Marshall Plan" for Ukraine. This is exactly what we must do, we must send a strong signal that we will support Ukraine as much as we can", - Michel said.

Apart from this, the President of the European Council noticed that the idea of creating a trust fund for Ukraine had been expressed a few weeks ago by the President Volodymyr Zelenski. He believes that the funds should be used for humanitarian aid, liquidity support and reconstruction of Ukraine. And the fund should be activated in the near future.

"This means that this discussion (at the conference, - ed.) should be the starting point. Here we will try to make our efforts more coordinated, more massive. That should be the goal," Charles Michel said.

"The Marshall Plan is the name of the American program to help Europe after World War II. The Plan called for rebuilding the European economy, removing trade barriers, modernizing industry and developing Europe as a whole.
