To effectively collect and process information on human rights violations by the Russian Federation during the war with Ukraine, a web platform https://humanrights.gov.ua/ has been created. The head of the Office of the President Andrey Yermak said this, according to the Official Internet Representation of the President of Ukraine.
"The collected facts will be used as evidence for the protection and representation of Ukraine in the European Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice of the UN. President Vladimir Zelensky by his decree has already authorized responsible persons to represent and defend the interests of Ukraine in the International Court of Justice of the UN in the case against Russia on charges of genocide. And there will be more such cases," he stressed.
The deputy head of the Office of the Head of State Yulia Sokolovska noted that it was possible to coordinate the efforts of the Office of the President, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Representation of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, get the support of partners and in a short time create an intergovernmental platform that will help collect evidence of human rights violations in our country.
"The information obtained will make it possible to hold the Russian Federation accountable and defend Ukraine's interests at international judicial platforms," she is convinced.
In order to record a human rights violation and/or a crime committed, it is necessary to fill out a form, describe the fact of human rights violation by the invader, attach available evidence: photos, videos, documents, information about witnesses, victims.
All information and witnesses who provide it will be reliably protected. The information will be processed by a qualified team of lawyers and prepared to protect the interests of our state. The evidentiary basis will be used only in court cases of Ukraine against the Russian Federation in compliance with international standards of justice.
As the Deputy Minister of Justice for European Integration Valeria Kolomiets noted, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has been waging an effective legal war against the Russian Federation on the platform of the European Court of Human Rights for eight years.
"In the first week since the beginning of Russia's full-scale military action in Ukraine, we persuaded the court to take preventive measures against the Russian Federation, which now automatically applies to every individual application that people already file with the court against the Russian Federation. The launch of this portal will help us to work more efficiently and promptly to protect the rights of people in Ukraine during the military aggression of the occupying country," said Valeria Kolomiets.
