Shmyhal on the attack on the energy sector: the blow was withstood, power will be restored in three stages

The Ukrainian energy system withstood a massive Russian attack on March 22. Power will be restored to the regions in three stages. This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal during a government meeting.

According to the Prime Minister, the occupiers have been attacking Ukraine for two days in a row, yesterday - Kyiv, today - Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Poltava, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lviv, Khmelnytskyi and Mykolaiv regions.

"Today's strikes were aimed primarily at our energy sector. It was one of the largest attacks on the energy sector in the 2 years of the great war. And the most massive attack in this autumn-winter period," said Shmyhal.

According to him, about 20 substations and power plants, including the Dnipro HPP, were hit. There are problems with electricity in several regions, and blackouts have been introduced in a number of regions. The Prime Minister emphasized that the power system is now operating stably.

"Thanks to the additional protection of our power facilities, we have withstood the blow. There is no shortage of capacity and it is not expected at this time. We are now working to fix everything. Repair teams are working 24/7 to restore power to Ukrainian homes as soon as possible," he added.

Shmyhal said that the power will be restored in three stages. The first stage is to connect critical infrastructure (heating, water supply, hospitals). The second stage is to restore electricity supply to the population. The third stage is to supply power to industry.

"Preliminarily, we need a day to supply power to all household consumers. We will restore everything gradually," he added.
