President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes that the situation at the front now better than in the last three months. Despite the capture of Avdiivka and the advance of the Russian army on the eastern front, he believes that the chances of knocking out the enemy are quite real. But this requires more weapons from partner countries and tough sanctions against Russia. The Head of State expressed this opinion in an interview with the French media outlet BFMTV published on Monday, March 11.
According to him, the situation at the front is difficult, but it was harder in the winter.
"The situation is much better than in the last three months. We had difficulties due to the lack of artillery ammunition, air blockade, Russian long-range and high density of Russian drones," he said.
Zelensky also noted that Russia's advance has now been halted and its army is suffering losses. However, he warned that things could change quickly if the Ukrainian army does not receive sufficient support.
In response to a question about the capture of Avdiivka, Zelensky noted that it could not be called a capture, as the city is virtually destroyed.
"The Russian army did not conquer the city, but was content to completely destroy it and then enter. The enemy had a significant advantage in the long-range weapons sector, they were 20 kilometers ahead of us. The Ukrainian Armed Forces were forced to withdraw," he said.
In the same interview, he touched upon Emmanuel Macron's proposal to send French troops to Ukraine. The Ukrainian president believes that his French counterpart believes that Putin deceived him at the beginning of the war, and therefore no longer trusts the Russian dictator. As for the French troops, Ukraine does not need foreign troops on its territory.
"But we could gladly accept instructors and technical staff from NATO member states. Your children will not die in Ukraine," Zelensky summarized, addressing the French.
