Hungary and Slovakia oppose allocation of 50 billion euros to Ukraine

Two EU countries, Hungary and Slovakia, which recently changed their governments, opposed the allocation of 50 billion euros to Ukraine at the EU summit on Thursday, Reuters reports.

This was the first high-level discussion in the EU on increasing the long-term budget for 2021-2027, which is scheduled for December. The European Commission has asked member states for €100 billion, half of which is intended for Ukraine.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said he would not support the money unless he saw a "very reasonable proposal."

"What we have been offered... is not suitable. Therefore, we will reject it for now. We will see what we come to in December," he said.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, according to Reuters diplomatic sources, warned against allocating money to Ukraine, citing deep corruption.
