Ukraine will abandon part-time education from 2024, - Fedorov

Deputy Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology Development Mykhailo Fedorov said that part-time education is a Soviet rudiment of education and will be abolished. He wrote about this on Telegram.

Fedorov noted that the government has approved a draft law, after which the Verkhovna Rada will abolish part-time education in Ukraine.

The Deputy Prime Minister believes that this document will bring Ukraine closer to European educational standards.

"We are optimizing higher education and bringing it closer to European standards. Now students will have more freedom of action. They will be able to choose how long to study, which subjects are interesting, and even change their specialty after 1-2 years of study," he wrote.

According to Fedorov, after the bill is passed, part-time and evening classes will be replaced by distance learning, which, in his opinion, is more effective.

"Ukraine needs educated citizens, so we are abandoning part-time education starting in 2024. Part-time education is a Soviet rudiment of education. Distance learning has proven to be more effective than buying diplomas and education for show," he wrote.

Also, students under contract will be able to adjust the terms of their studies. This is especially important for those who work, Fedorov noted. As conceived by the authors of the bill, students will be able to accelerate their studies and complete a bachelor's degree in 3 years instead of four, or vice versa - to get a degree in 6 years.

In addition, students will be able to choose a specialty after the first or second year of study.

"It's super difficult to choose a profession for life at the age of 17. That's why we give students more time and opportunities to make up their minds. You enter a certain field, study general subjects for 1-2 years, and then choose a specific specialty that you like," explained Fedorov.
