Romania has expressed support for the initiative to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the European Union by the end of 2023. This was announced by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis at a press conference with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky.
"Today, I have confirmed Romania's political and practical support for the start of negotiations on the accession of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova to the European Union by the end of 2023. I will personally play on this decision in the European Council in December," he said.
The Romanian President emphasized that this decision will be recognized as a progress made by Ukraine and Moldova in the face of difficult challenges.
He also emphasized that it is of strategic importance for the EU.
"At the same time, I emphasized the importance of implementing the comprehensive reforms necessary for accession to the European Union to ensure the stability of the state and Ukrainian society," Iohannis added.
