On August 28, Ukraine set a new record for electricity consumption, prompting a decision to import electricity from Romania and Poland, Ukrenergo reports.
According to the company, on August 28, the evening peak in electricity consumption exceeded the previous record set on August 21 by 1.2%.
"This is a very high indicator, given the limited capacity of power plants to generate electricity due to repairs," the company emphasized.
To meet the demand from 19:00 to 22:00, an emergency measure was taken - the use of emergency assistance from the power systems of Romania and Poland. The total volume of emergency assistance amounted to 1200 MWh.
"Emergency assistance is the last and most expensive emergency response measure to balance the power system without disconnecting consumers," the statement said.
In addition, small amounts of electricity are also being imported from Slovakia in the morning and evening hours. The total volume of these imports is 1638 MW, and the maximum capacity in some hours reaches 336 MW.
