The European Union has added the private military company Wagner and the Russian news agency FAN, linked to Kremlin oligarch Yevgeny Prigozhin, to the sanctions list.
Information about this appeared on Thursday in the Official Journal of the EU.
As noted in the EU decision, the "Wagner" PMC is behind the attacks on the Ukrainian cities of Soledar and Bakhmut in January 2023 and takes an active part in Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine.
"Thus, the Wagner group is responsible for materially supporting actions that undermine and threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine," the text of the decision reads.
In turn, RIA "FAN", registered in St. Petersburg, is part of "Patriot Media Group" - a Russian media organization whose board of trustees is headed by Prigozhin.
It is noted that RIA "FAN" engages in propaganda and misinformation about Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine, calls it a mission to stop "Ukrainian Nazis" and advertises the actions of PMC "Wagner".
"Thus, RIA "FAN" materially supports actions and policies that undermine and threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine," the EU notes.
