The European Union expanded and extended the sanctions against Belarus for a year

The European Union has expanded the list of individuals and institutions from Belarus subject to EU restrictive measures in connection with Russian aggression against Ukraine and oppression of democratic freedoms and human rights in the republic.

This is reported in the Official Journal of the EU.

This decision of the Council of the EU 2023/421 regarding restrictive measures in view of the situation in Belarus and the involvement of the Republic of Belarus in Russian aggression against Ukraine from February 24, 2023 supplements its previous decision.

"Based on the review of decision 2012/642/CFSP and taking into account the difficult situation that persists in Belarus and the involvement of Belarus in the criminal aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, it is advisable to leave in force all the measures that were applied by the European Union. Accordingly, the validity of Decision 2012/642/CFSP should be extended until February 28, 2024," the EU Council decided.

At the same time, it added 21 individuals and two institutions to the sanctions list, including the Belarusian enterprises LLC "Synesis" and JSC "Belarusian Potash Company".

As reported, since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Belarus has been giving its territory to Russia for the deployment of troops and the launch of strikes on the territory of Ukraine. Currently, the Lukashenka regime is preparing a "people's militia".
