A new package of sanctions against Russia will be announced by the United States on February 24, the anniversary of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.
US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland stated this in an interview with The Washington Post.
She mentioned the sanctions package while commenting on potential US steps in response to China's military aid to Russia.
"We have already made it clear that we are prepared to impose sanctions on Chinese companies. We have already done so. They will be in the sanctions package that we will announce tomorrow (Friday), on the first anniversary of the full-scale invasion. We will also introduce other restrictions on the offices of Chinese companies in Europe that we believe are facilitating sanctions evasion," Nuland said.
It will be recalled that on Tuesday, during a speech in Warsaw, US President Joe Biden confirmed that the US and its Western allies intend to announce new sanctions against Russia this week.
It will be recalled that the day before, the high representative of the EU for foreign policy and security policy, Josep Borrell, expressed confidence that the tenth package of sanctions against Russia will be adopted by the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
According to media reports, the new EU sanctions package includes restrictions on more than 60 Russian officials and politicians, some of whom are believed to be involved in the campaign to forcibly remove Ukrainian children to Russia.
