After lengthy negotiations, the heads of the EU member states agreed on the twelfth package of sanctions against Russia. This was reported by The Guardian.
"Although the text was agreed by all countries earlier this week, Austria did not give its final approval until late Thursday night," the publication said.
The details of the new package of economic restrictions were not disclosed, but it is known that the previously recommended package of sanctions by the European Commission contained proposals to cut off commercial revenues derived from the trade in Russian diamonds and against a number of Russian officials and businessmen, including the son of Dmitry Medvedev.
It is reported that the final decision on the new sanctions package should be made in the coming days.
"The EU countries will try to agree on another package of sanctions against Russia by the second anniversary of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine," the sources say.
