Ministry of Foreign Affairs appealed to the UN because of the illegal removal and adoption of Ukrainian children

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has appealed to the UN because of the illegal removal and adoption of Ukrainian children by Russian citizens. Such actions of the Russian Federation violate the norms of international law.

This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is noted that the Russian military in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine resort to illegal and forcible transfer of Ukrainian citizens, in particular children, including orphans, children deprived of parental care, as well as children whose parents were killed as a result of Russian aggression.

In addition, there is a threat of children being adopted by Russian citizens without following all necessary procedures. For this purpose, the Russian authorities seek to sign so-called "agreements" with the "LDPR" to move illegally deported orphaned children to Russian families.

"In fact, Russia, in violation of international humanitarian law and elementary standards of humanity, is engaged in organized state-level kidnapping of children and destruction of the future of the Ukrainian nation," the message reads.

In this regard, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry appeals to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the International Committee of the Red Cross, UNICEF, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Special Representatives of the UN Secretary-General for Children in Armed Conflict and on violence against children to apply urgent measures for the return of Ukrainian children in the state.

Recall that since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has forcibly removed more than 500,000 Ukrainian citizens.
