The decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to suspend consular services for Ukrainian citizens will not affect their refugee status in Germany, the Berlin Senate reported in Deutsche Welle.

It has been clarified that the issuance or extension of a temporary residence permit to refugees does not require a valid passport.

The Berlin State Office for Foreigners will provide Ukrainians with a travel document that replaces a passport in case of refusal to issue or extend a passport in accordance with the rules of stay of foreigners in Germany.

However, it is noted that immigration authorities can issue German documents to refugees only in case of good reasons, and applications will be carefully checked and usually rejected.

It is emphasized that in Germany, the performance of military duty is considered a fully acceptable civic duty.
