War in Ukraine killed at least 1,932 civilians, 2,589 more wounded - UN

Civilian casualties from February 24, when Russia launched the war against Ukraine, to 24:00 on April 12 were 4,521 civilians (the report a day earlier said 4,450), including 1,932 deaths (1,892), the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said Wednesday.

"OHCHR believes that the actual figures are significantly higher because information from some places where intense fighting has taken place has been delayed and many reports are still awaiting confirmation," the document said.

According to it, this applies, for example, to Mariupol (Donetsk region), Izyum (Kharkiv region), Popasna (Luhansk region) and Borodyanka (Kyiv region), where there are reports of numerous civilian casualties. They are subject to further verification and are not included in the above statistics.

"The majority of civilian deaths or injuries were caused by the use of explosive devices with a wide kill zone, including heavy artillery and multiple rocket launchers, as well as missile and air strikes," the report said.

The UN confirmed that 485 men, 313 women, 54 boys and 31 girls were killed, while the gender of 72 children and 977 adults could not yet be determined.

The 2,589 wounded include 52 girls and 52 boys, as well as 146 children whose gender has not yet been determined.

Compared to the previous day, according to the UN, four more children were killed and an equal number were wounded.

The UN OHCHR indicates that as of midnight on April 13, there were 621 (600) deaths and 1,010 (999) injuries in government-controlled territory and 77 (75) deaths and 286 (283) injuries in territory controlled by self-proclaimed "republics" in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

In other regions of Ukraine under government control (Kyiv, as well as Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv, Sumy, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy and Chernihiv regions), the UN recorded 1234 (1217) dead and 1293 (1276) wounded.

The report also says that according to the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, as of 8:00 a.m. on April 13, 191 (186) children were killed and 349 (344) wounded.

The summary traditionally points out that the increase in its figures to the previous summary should not be attributed only to the cases that took place on 12 April, as during the day, OHCHR also verified a number of cases that took place in the previous days.
