Ukraine sent a note to Georgia over Saakashvili's transfer to a prison hospital

On November 8, former Georgian President and Ukrainian citizen Mikhail Saakashvili was transferred from a penal colony to a prison hospital. Ukraine is disappointed with this move by the Georgian authorities.

This was said in a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is disappointed with the transfer of Ukrainian citizen Mikhail Saakashvili to the penitentiary medical facility #18 in Gldani and the lack of informing the Ukrainian side about it," the statement said.

The Ukrainian side called on the Georgian authorities to transfer Saakashvili to a civilian hospital, which would have all the necessary capabilities to provide emergency care.

"Today an official note of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry on this issue has been handed over to the Georgian Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Ministry and the Ukrainian Embassy in Georgia continue to keep the situation around Ukrainian citizen Mikhail Saakashvili under special control," the ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Saakashvili's further stay in the prison hospital could create additional risks and tension, which could be avoided if "guided by humanitarian considerations."

It should be recalled that Saakashvili himself refused to go to the prison hospital because, in his opinion, he might be in danger there. Additionally, Ukrainian ombudsman Lyudmyla Denysova said that the prison hospital conditions were not suitable for treating Saakashvili.

We shall remind you that Mikheil Saakashvili has been on hunger strike for over 30 days and yesterday he refused to take medical drugs, after which his condition started to rapidly deteriorate.
