Kyiv: The Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for the double terrorist attack that took place on Sunday, January 27, in the Catholic Church in the south of the Philippines. As a result of two explosions of the Catholic Church in the city of Jolo, at least 27 people were killed and 71 were injured. Among the victims were both soldiers and civilians. Subsequently, these data were clarified. It is reported that 18 people died, more than 80 people were injured.
Most of the population of the city of Jolo and in the whole provinces of Sulu are Muslims. On January 21, a referendum was held in the south of the Philippines, which approved the creation of a new autonomous Muslim region in the country, but the Sulu residents voted mostly against it.
