KYIV (FNI) - The Polish Sejm adopted an appeal to the authorities of the Russian Federation with an appeal to release all Ukrainian political prisoners.
The Seimas Foreign Affairs Committee today, June 15, adopted the relevant document.
"The Seimas of the Republic of Poland appeals to the authorities of the Russian Federation with an appeal to release all Ukrainian citizens who are held for political reasons in Russian places of detention. We demand the release of director Oleg Sentsov, sentenced in August 2015 to 20 years in a strict-security colony on the basis of an article on terrorism, "read out the text of the appeal, MP Andrzej Halytsky.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Pavlo Klimkin, thanked the Seimas of the Republic of Poland for passing a resolution calling on Russia to release Ukrainian political prisoners.
"Thanks to partners like Poland, we are stronger and more solid in protecting the values and lives of innocent people," Klimkin said.
In early June, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin called on his colleagues around the world to pressure Russia to release Ukrainian political prisoners in the Russian Federation.
