Erbil: The leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Massoud Barzani, hopes that after the referendum on the independence of Kurdistan, Turkey will not block its border. He stated this during a press conference.

"We proved to Turkey and the international community that we are not a threat. As for the borders that can close. We hope that they will not do this, because it will not bring them or us any good, "he said.

Recall, on Monday, September 25, a referendum on the independence of Iraqi Kurdistan was appointed.

On Wednesday, June 7, the autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan appointed a date for a referendum on the independence of the region on September 25, which the authorities of Turkey have already called "a serious mistake." The UN also said that it will not monitor the conduct of the referendum.

Turkey urged the leadership of Iraqi Kurdistan to abandon the holding of a referendum on independence and stressed that otherwise the region will have to "pay dearly".

The United States said that it does not support a referendum on the independence of Iraqi Kurdistan. The same opinion was expressed in the UK. In turn, Israel supported the referendum.

The European Union issued a statement before the referendum on the independence of the Iraqi region of Kurdistan with strong support for the territorial integrity of the country.

On Sunday, September 17, the Prime Minister of Iraq announced his readiness to use military force in the event of an upsurge of violence following the upcoming referendum on the independence of the Kurdistan Region.
