Ankara: Turkey once again supported the territorial integrity of Iraq against the background of the planned referendum on the independence of the northern Iraqi region of Kurdistan, which is scheduled for September 25.

Vice Prime Minister of Turkey Bekir Bozdag spoke out against any steps that could destabilize the situation in the region, the Turkish media reported.

Bozdag called on the authorities of the region to reconsider the decision to hold a referendum.

On Wednesday, June 7, the Autonomous Iraqi Kurdistan appointed a date for a referendum on the independence of the region on September 25. Turkish authorities have already called it "a serious mistake." The UN also said that it will not monitor the conduct of the referendum.

On July 25, the European Union issued a statement before the referendum on the independence of the Iraqi region of Kurdistan with strong support for the territorial integrity of the country.

In turn, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on July 7 announced that the Kurdish communities will spread fear after their referendum on independence.
