NATO has two to three years to prepare for a possible Russian attack. This was stated by the head of the Norwegian Armed Forces, General Eirik Kristoffersen, Bloomberg reports.
The general noted that this is a shorter time period than some Western officials estimated during the NATO discussion of Russia's military build-up and its ability to recover.
“At one point, someone said it would take 10 years, but I think we're back to less than 10 years because of the industrial base that is now operating in Russia. It will take some time, which gives us the opportunity over the next two to three years to restore our forces, restore our stockpiles at the same time as we support Ukraine. We need to do that in two to three years to make sure we are prepared for whatever may happen,” Kristoffersen said and called for increased defense spending.
Bloomberg reports that the Norwegian parliament is expected to approve a plan to almost double defense spending over the next 12 years. The emphasis will be on naval and air defense capabilities.
As a reminder, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg stated that there are no signs of Russia preparing an attack on the Alliance.
