ICC chief prosecutor calls for arrest of Hamas leader and Israeli prime minister

The International Criminal Court has demanded the arrest of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas, and Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel. They are accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in connection with the October 7 attack on Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza. This statement was made by ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan, according to CNN.

Khan also claims that the arrest warrants are for Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and two other Hamas leaders.

This decision of the ICC is the first time that a senior leader of a close US ally has been recognized as a target.

According to the prosecutor, the charges include “extermination, murder, hostage-taking, rape, and sexual violence in detention.”
