In an interview with Stern magazine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz urged not to expect any breakthroughs at the peace summit regarding Ukraine in Switzerland. But he said that it could lead to direct negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.
“No one should have high expectations: We are not negotiating to end the war. At best, this is the beginning of a process that could lead to direct talks between Ukraine and Russia,” the German chancellor said.
He specified that in Switzerland it will be about the safety of nuclear power plants, grain exports, prisoner exchange and the taboo on the use of nuclear weapons.
“Again, all of this is still in its infancy,” Scholz added.
As a reminder, Russia has not been invited to the summit, and China's participation is still in question.
