Due to the specific geographical location of Odesa, air defense is not always able to intercept Russian missiles and drones. This was stated by Yuriy Ihnat, speaker of the Ukrainian Air Force, during the telethon.
"Unfortunately, it is not possible to destroy all the drones that Russia attacks from the south. In particular, from the occupied Crimea, as well as from Prymorsko-Akhtarsk. This time, Balaklava is where the drones were launched from," he said.
Ihnat explained that Odesa is a densely populated city with large buildings and infrastructure located on the Black Sea coast. This makes it difficult for air defense to operate.
"The location of air defense in the Odesa region is designed in such a way that it is not always possible to intercept both drones and missiles on the approaches to the city. This is due to its geographical location," the Air Force spokesman said.
